About

Emma and DaddyWelcome to my online diary, I apologize in advance. Regarding the name; the “Powered by” moniker is very cliche these days, it’s used a lot in the software industry. I felt I could both participate in, and make fun of this trend by using the slogan.

I’ve always had some form of personal website, but this is my first time trying an off the shelf blogging engine. I am now at a point in my life where I no longer want to spend 2 hours in Photoshop, Notepad, and FTP just to do one blog update. With good blogging software none of that work is necessary anymore. I tried using Facebook but found it’s not very good for blogging. I’m also a pretty self absorbed person, and there just wasn’t enough stuff about ME on Facebook.

You can still find my old personal websites and my Facebook profile, though as of March 2009, I’ll update mainly on this blog.

I’m not a very exciting person so please don’t expect me to update this blog very often. When I do it will mainly be photos I’ve taken or various other TMI posts.

Personal

I was born and raised in southern California and I live here with my beautiful wife and children.

My youngest daughter has Dravet syndrome. Dravet syndrome has changed our life dramatically, every little thing that my daughter does is a challenge. We just take each day as it comes, happy to hear her wake each morning. Sarah’s Story

Professional

I’m lead engineer at GameSpy doing design and programming for their gaming APIs. I haven’t done public facing website/webapp development for many years now, but back when I did I was dang good at it. Several of my sites won awards. And look at me now, using off the shelf blogging software, yuck.

Update 2013
I’m now at Blizzard :)

Gaming

I grew up playing video games, Lord British and Mario were my babysitters throughout the 1980s. I’ve owned almost every console available for sale in north America since about 1980. I’ve also always had a personal computer and am even more into computer games than console games. I suppose it’s fitting that I ended up working in the gaming industry. Between 1995 and 1998 I contributed a lot to the industry with my gaming website and all the content I created for Doom, Quake, and Unreal. I did everything from maps for Doom and Quake, to a partial conversion for Unreal including maps, textures, models, scripting, etc. Below are some links to some of my oldest work.

Reef Keeping

I’ve always loved the water. There’s nothing better than frolicking in the gentle surf of a white sand beach on a tropical island. I did a fair amount of scuba diving all over the world when I was younger. I am PADI certified, but I haven’t been diving in years. I can’t stand cold water, even though I love water and I love marine biology you’ll never get me to dive off the west coast here, it has to be somewhere tropical where the water is at least 80 degrees.

Anyway, blah blah blah, I love fish and coral, etc. I had a fish tank, below are the pics.
